ABOUT THE WORK
This is a collection of collages made with fabric, yarn, thread and dyes. She developed her own technique of creating unique compositions with the materials and using a sewing machine to "encase" them by running her machine over the whole surface zillions of times. The result is an interestingly new texture and a unified field. Her earlier works were mostly playful, abstract and evocative of the water and marine life. They harken back to her childhood experiences with the rivers and the seashores and their denizens. In the last decade, her collages have evolved into larger dimensions and more serious subjects. They reflect her growing concern about the environment and certain social issues. Her not-so-subtle references to certain ecological problems, issues of war, inequality and migration are painstakingly described with her materials and countless machine stitches. She hopes that the starkness of the topics is mitigated by the aesthetic pleasure the pieces offer. These big collages are best experienced in person, where one can appreciate the varied textures, colors, shapes and subjects more directly.
